Hiking in the national park

Hohe Tauern National Park

The largest nature reserve of the Alps

The Gastein Valley is part of the Hohe Tauern National Park.

Since 1981, the Hohe Tauern National Park has extended over the states of Carinthia, Salzburg and Tyrol. It comprises a total area of 1,856 km² and includes a variety of different types of landscapes: from barren mountain peaks to lush mountain pastures and a cultural landscape embossed by farmers.

Guided Tours through the National Park

Here, visitors can get up close to nature and see rare animal and plant species such as the golden eagle, the ibex or the edelweiss on hikes and excursions . Educational hiking trails introduce both young and old visitors alike to their surroundings in the national park, and those who take part in a guided tour with the park rangers can maybe even learn how to whistle like a marmot.
