Gold panning in Gastein

An exciting highlight during a trip with the children! For there are gold deposits in the Gastein valley - Tauern gold. And this can be found with old craftsmanship and with a little luck. Gold mining has a long tradition in the Gastein Valley, dating back to the 14th century. There are three places in the Gastein valley where you can try your hand at gold panning. At the Angertal river in Bad Hofgastein, at the Alte Pöck river below the Radhausberg, where the healing cave is also located, and at the Waldgasthof Angertal.

Klammstein castle and show cave „Entrische Kirche“

Klammstein castle is considered the oldest building in Gastein. Immerse yourself in the history of the castle and go back in time. Not far from the castle you will also find the „Entrische Kirche“, which incidentally means "eerie cave". The show cave is characterised by wonderful stalactite formations and peculiar rock forms, which were formed by the power of water after the ice ages.

The whole cave system is about 42 km long but only the first kilometre can be visited with a guided tour. Over many stairs you will go up and down and pass fascinating illuminated ice formations on the way.

Werfen castle

The more than 900 year old adventure castle Hohenwerfen sits enthroned on a rock cone high above the Salzach valley in the Pongau. On a round tour through the rooms of the castle, up the steeple and through the museums with illuminated exhibitions you will feel the wind of the surrounding mountains. Two times a day there are flight demonstrations of the historic falconry.
